Use the hotspot
Start the station's own Wi-Fi network, join it, and change its password or timeout.
Goal: the station's hotspot is on and your phone or laptop is joined to it, so you can open the console at https://192.168.4.1.
The hotspot is a Wi-Fi network made by the station itself, for people standing next to it. It runs alongside the station's other connections and does not give the station internet. See Networking.
Before you start
- To start it from the console, or to read or change its password, you need the Admin role.
- To start it with the button, you need to be at the station.
- To start it from the Live3 app (firmware 4.1 and later), you need the app, Bluetooth on, and access to the station in Live3.
Steps
- 1
Start it, one of three ways.
- The button: press the hotspot button on the station. Pressing it again stops the hotspot.
- The console: on Network, Hotspot tab, click Start Hotspot. It takes several seconds.
- The Live3 app (firmware 4.1 and later): open the On site tab and tap Connect on the station under Nearby. The app wakes the station over Bluetooth and is given the hotspot password.
- 2
Find the name and password. The hotspot's name is
XTM-followed by the last four digits of the station's serial number. On firmware 4.1 and later each station has its own random password; an Admin can read it on the Hotspot tab. The Live3 app never needs you to type it. - 3
Join it. Join the network on your phone or laptop. The Live3 app joins by itself after a Bluetooth wake.
- 4
Open the console. Go to
https://192.168.4.1and sign in with your access code. See Sign in to a station.
Check it worked
On the Hotspot tab, Status shows Active, the minutes remaining and the number of connected devices. IP shows 192.168.4.1.
Change the password or timeout
- 1
Stop the hotspot. The password can only be changed while it is stopped. Click Stop Hotspot. Do this over another connection, not over the hotspot itself.
- 2
Edit and save. Enter a new Password (8 to 63 characters) and choose Auto-timeout (15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes), then click Save Config.
If something goes wrong
- The hotspot switched itself off. It stops after its Auto-timeout. On firmware 4.1 and later it also stops about 3 minutes after the last device leaves. Start it again.
- The Live3 app cannot wake the station. If the hotspot is already on, the station cannot be woken over Bluetooth. Join the hotspot from your phone's Wi-Fi settings instead.
- Stop the hotspot to change the password. The password box is locked while the hotspot runs.
Hotspot changes are not checked by the network rollback guard, because the hotspot is what you use to recover.
