Update firmware
Install a signed firmware release that Live3 has sent to the station, from the console or from the Live3 app on site.
Goal: on firmware 4.1 and later, the station installs the release Live3 assigned to it, and the Firmware tab says Up to date.
Status as of 29 Sep 2026
Installing updates is switched off on every station by default. Today it is switched on only on Aeron's test units, and over-the-air updates are not yet offered to customer stations. If your station needs an update, contact Aeron support. This guide describes how it works once installing is switched on for your station.
How a release reaches a station, and what protects it, is on Firmware updates.
Before you start
- You need the Admin role.
- A release assigned to the station in Live3. The station never picks a version by itself.
- Installing switched on for the station. If it is off, the console says Installing is switched off on this station.
- A quiet moment: some of the station's services restart while the release installs.
Steps
- 1
Open the Firmware tab. Go to Device and open the Firmware tab. The Updates card shows the installed version and whether an update is waiting.
- 2
Get the release onto the station. A station with internet downloads the release by itself, and the card shows Downloading with the number of parts done. To ask now, click Check for updates. For a station with no internet, see From the Live3 app on site below.
- 3
Install. When the card says the release is ready to install, click Install now. The card shows Installing while it works.
From the Live3 app on site
For a station with no internet, the Live3 app carries the release:
- 1
Download where there is signal. In the Live3 app, open Updates from the More menu to see which stations are waiting, and download their releases to the phone.
- 2
At the station, send and install. Connect to the station over its hotspot (see Open the console on site). On the station's page in the app, open Firmware and follow the bar: Download, Send, Install, with one button.
Check it worked
The Updates card says Up to date with the new version, and Installed on shows the date. The firmware icon in the top bar shows a tick. Live3 receives the result.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Installing is switched off on this station | Installing is not enabled for this station. Contact Aeron support. |
| Paused in Live3 | Updates for this station are paused in Live3. |
| No update is assigned to this station | Nothing is waiting. Live3 decides what a station runs. |
| Couldn't check for updates | The station could not reach Live3. Check its internet. |
| Update failed | The install did not finish. The station has gone back to its previous version and reported the failure to Live3. After three failures of the same release it stops trying that release. |
If power is lost during an install, the station finishes putting the old version back when it starts again.
