Record sensor calibration

Keep each sensor's serial number, input and calibration dates in the Sensor Inventory, and update a pyranometer's sensitivity after recalibration.

Goal: every sensor on the station is in the Sensor Inventory with its calibration dates, so the console warns you when a calibration is due.

The inventory is a record for audits and maintenance. It does not change how readings are taken, except for a pyranometer's sensitivity (step 3).

Before you start

  • You need the Admin role.
  • For each sensor: serial number, make, model, install date, and calibration date (and due date, if the certificate gives one).
  • For a pyranometer on a millivolt input: the sensitivity from its new certificate, in microvolts per W/m².

Steps

  1. 1

Open the inventory. Go to Sensor Inventory. Click Add Sensor, or Edit on an existing row.

  2. 2

Link it to its input. Choose Type (Modbus, SDI-12, Analog or Digital), then Source, the input the sensor is wired to. Each input can belong to one sensor.

  3. 3

Fill in the details. Enter Serial No., Make and Model (pick from the list or Add new...), Calibration date and Install date. Calibration due date is filled in as install date plus 2 years; change it to match the certificate. For a millivolt channel, enter the Sensitivity.

  4. 4

    Save. Click Save.

Sensitivity changes the channel

Saving a sensitivity also sets that analog channel's Scaling to match, so readings follow the new certificate straight away. Check the channel on Analog and digital afterwards.

Check it worked

The row shows Cal Status: OK, Due soon (within 30 days) or Overdue, judged against the station's date. Download Report makes a PDF of the whole inventory for your records.

If something goes wrong

  • That source is already mapped to another sensor. Edit or delete the other sensor first.
  • Calibration due date cannot be before calibration date. Correct one of the dates.
  • Status looks wrong. It uses the station's date. Check it in the top bar and set the time if needed.
