Connect to Wi-Fi

Join a station to a Wi-Fi network so it can upload data and be reached on that network.

Goal: the station is connected to your Wi-Fi network, with internet, and the change is kept.

Before you start

  • You need the Admin role.
  • Have the network's name (SSID) and password ready. If the network needs a fixed address, have the IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS too.
  • If you are connected to the console over Wi-Fi now, a wrong setting can end your session. Working over Ethernet or the hotspot is safer.

Steps

  1. 1

Open the WiFi tab. Go to Network and open the WiFi tab.

  2. 2

Turn Wi-Fi on. Switch Enable WiFi on. It saves by itself. For up to 20 seconds the scan button reads Checking WiFi… while the radio starts.

  3. 3

Pick the network. Click Scan Networks, then Select next to your network to copy its name into SSID. You can also type the SSID (up to 32 characters).

  4. 4

Enter the password. Type it in Password (8 to 63 characters, or leave it blank for an open network).

  5. 5

Choose the address mode. Leave Mode on DHCP to take an address from the router, or choose Static and fill in IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS.

  6. 6

Save. Click Save. The station connects with the new settings.

  7. 7

Confirm the change (firmware 4.1 and later). An amber banner shows that the station is checking the new settings. When you can see it is working, click Keep this change. If you need longer, click More time. If the change breaks the connection, the station puts the old settings back by itself. See Network change banner.

Check it worked

The Wi-Fi icon in the top bar turns green, with one to three arcs for signal strength. On firmware 4.1 and later the banner says The new network settings are working and have been kept.
