Add a calculated parameter

Let the station work out a value from other parameters, such as dew point, wind gust or daily solar energy.

Goal: the station calculates a new value from parameters it already logs, and logs the result like any other parameter.

Before you start

  • You need the Admin role.
  • The input parameters already exist. For example, Dew Point needs an Air Temperature and a Humidity parameter. Check what each equation needs on Calculated parameters.
  • Any constants the equation needs, such as a coefficient from a data sheet.

Steps

  1. 1

Open the form. Go to Parameters and click + Add Parameter. Enter a Name and Unit.

  2. 2

Choose the equation. Set Type to Calculated, then pick the Equation Type. One picker appears per input.

  3. 3

Fill in the inputs. For each input marked parameter, pick the existing parameter. For each input marked number, type the constant. Every input must be filled in.

  4. 4

Set logging and save. Choose Sampling and Precision as for any parameter. Scaling and Offset apply to the result. Click Save Parameter.

Check it worked

The new parameter shows a value on the Dashboard. Some equations report only at set times, for example the 10-minute wind gust at :00, :10, :20 and so on.

If something goes wrong

  • This calculation type requires at least 2 input parameter(s). or Every input parameter must be selected before saving. Pick every input.
  • The value reads 999. Several equations report 999 when they cannot give a valid value, for example an input is missing or out of range.
  • Cannot delete: used by 'Dew Point'. A calculated parameter uses the one you are deleting. Change or delete the calculated one first.
