Set the time

Choose where the station gets its time, set its time zone, sync now, or set the clock by hand.

Goal: the station's clock is right and in the right time zone, so readings carry correct times and access codes are accepted.

The station keeps its own clock. It can set it from GPS, the cellular network, or an internet time server (NTP), in the order you choose. See How data flows, Time stamps.

Before you start

  • You need the Admin role.
  • If you use NTP, the station needs internet. An NTP server name of your own is optional.

Steps

  1. 1

Open the Time tab. Go to Device and open the Time tab. The Auto Time Sync card holds the settings.

  2. 2

Choose the sources. Set GPS Priority, Cellular Priority and NTP Priority to 1, 2 or 3 (1 is tried first), or Disabled for a source you do not want. If NTP is used, enter the NTP Server (up to 64 characters).

  3. 3

Choose how often. Set Sync Interval (Hours), from 1 to 24.

  4. 4

Set the time zone. In Timezone, type a city, country, zone name or offset (for example +5:30) and pick from the list. If the zone uses daylight saving, DST Setting appears: leave it on Automatic (follow DST rules) unless you need standard time all year.

  5. 5

Save and sync. Click Save, then Sync Now to set the clock straight away instead of waiting for the next interval.

Set the clock by hand

If no source is available, use the Manual Time Override card on the same tab. Type Date & Time as DD-MM-YYYY HH:MM:SS (24-hour) and click Apply Manual Time, or click Sync to Browser Time to copy your computer's clock. A manual time applies immediately and lasts until the next scheduled sync.

Check it worked

  • Under the settings, the card shows Last auto-sync with the time and the source used, and a green tick.
  • The clock in the top bar shows the right local time. It always shows the station's time zone, not your computer's.

If something goes wrong

  • (no sync sources enabled) Every source is set to Disabled. Enable at least one.
  • A red cross after the last attempt. The source could not be reached. GPS needs a satellite fix (see the GPS icon in the top bar); NTP needs internet.
  • Access codes are refused. A code is only accepted if the station's clock is within a few minutes of the real time. Sign in with an access link or Continue with Live3, then fix the time.
  • The cloud icon is yellow and says the clock is behind the last upload. The station's time went backwards. Set it right and uploads carry on.
