Set up cellular
Turn on the station's modem and mobile data, and enter the APN from your SIM provider.
Goal: the station has its own internet link over a SIM card, for uploads from a remote site.
Before you start
- You need the Admin role.
- A data SIM fitted in the station.
- The APN from your SIM provider, and a username and password only if the provider gives one.
Steps
- 1
Open the Cellular tab. Go to Network and open the Cellular tab.
- 2
Turn the modem on. Switch Enable Cellular on. It saves by itself.
- 3
Enter the APN. Under the access point settings, type the APN (for example
internet). Leave Authentication on Automatic unless your provider says otherwise. Fill in Username and Password only if the provider gave them. - 4
Save the APN. Click Save APN. Mobile data restarts with the new settings.
- 5
Turn data on. Switch Enable Data on.
- 6
Confirm the change (firmware 4.1 and later). When the amber banner shows and the connection works, click Keep this change. See Network change banner.
Check it worked
The cellular icon in the top bar shows signal bars and the network generation. The data arrows appear only while cellular is the connection in use; if Ethernet or Wi-Fi also has internet, the station may use that instead.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| A SIM card icon with a cross | No SIM detected. Check it is fitted correctly. |
| Empty bars | The SIM has no network. Hover the SIM icon to see why (not registered, searching, registration denied). Check coverage and that the SIM is active. |
| Enable Cellular first | Turn on Enable Cellular before Enable Data. |
| No change to the APN settings. | Nothing was different, so nothing was applied. |
| The username changed. Enter the password that goes with it, or use Forget. | A new username needs its password. |
